When your account is first setup, this file is copied into your public_html directory to serve as a starting point for your website.  It contains general startup directions and links to helpful areas.  You can delete or overwrite this file when you have your site setup.

Note that this file is named index.html.  If you use another index file such as index.php, because of the order index pages are looked for by the server, the index.html file will be served instead of yours.  In that case, you must delete or rename the index.html file before your index.php or other file will be displayed in a web browser.
